Reimagining a Creative Studio With a Bold New Digital Identity

Overview

Northline Studio is a multidisciplinary creative studio working with ambitious brands across identity, digital, and campaign design.

As the studio grew, its existing identity no longer reflected the quality, ambition, and maturity of its work.

Northline wanted to reposition itself as a premium creative partner while keeping the experimental spirit that made the studio unique.

We partnered with the team to rethink the brand from the ground up.

The Challenge

Northline had an impressive portfolio, but its previous identity didn't provide the right platform to present that work.

The website relied heavily on traditional layouts and didn't create enough space for projects to tell their own stories.

The studio also needed a stronger visual system that could work across its website, presentations, social media, proposals, and future campaigns.

The challenge wasn't simply to make Northline look better. It was to make the brand feel more confident, distinctive, and relevant.

Brand Discovery

We began with conversations around Northline's vision, creative philosophy, target audience, competitors, and future ambitions.

From these discussions, we identified three core characteristics that needed to define the new identity:

Confident. Experimental. Refined.

These principles became the foundation for the creative direction.

Visual Identity

The new identity was designed around a flexible visual system rather than a single logo.

We developed a refined typographic system, distinctive graphic elements, image treatments, spacing principles, and layout rules that could adapt to different types of content.

The identity intentionally creates contrast between structured typography and expressive imagery.

This balance gives Northline a professional foundation while preserving its creative personality.

Art Direction

Photography and project imagery became an important part of the new brand.

Instead of treating portfolio images as simple thumbnails, we created an art direction system that allows each project to become an individual visual story.

Large-scale imagery, carefully selected crops, editorial compositions, and intentional whitespace create a more immersive browsing experience.

Website Experience

The new website was designed as a digital portfolio first and a traditional agency website second.

Projects take center stage from the moment visitors enter the site.

The homepage introduces the studio's positioning, selected work, capabilities, and personality before guiding visitors into detailed case studies.

Each project page follows a storytelling structure that explains the challenge, creative process, design decisions, and final outcome.

Case Study Design

We created a flexible case study framework that gives Northline the ability to tell different stories without forcing every project into the exact same format.

Large visual moments are combined with concise descriptions, project information, process sections, and final outcomes.

This creates a more editorial experience while keeping the information easy to scan.

Motion & Interaction

Subtle motion was introduced to give the website a sense of personality.

Transitions, image reveals, hover interactions, and scrolling effects were used carefully to support the content rather than distract from it.

The goal was to make the website feel alive while keeping navigation intuitive.

Design System

A complete digital design system was developed to support future growth.

Typography, buttons, grids, spacing, cards, navigation, project modules, and responsive behaviors were documented and organized into reusable components.

This gives the Northline team the flexibility to add new projects and pages without rebuilding the experience from scratch.

The Result

The new Northline identity creates a stronger connection between the quality of the studio's work and the way that work is presented.

The website now feels more confident, expressive, and premium while remaining easy to navigate.

Most importantly, the new system gives Northline a flexible foundation that can evolve as the studio continues to grow.
